Introduction

Toyo University was founded as a small academy of philosophy in 1887. It served as the first university that accepted female students in Japan. Today, more than 30,000 students are learning in 4 different campuses located in/around the Tokyo area, including 1,500 international students from many different parts of the world. Programs at the undergraduate level consist of 14 faculties and 48 departments, including departments of humanities, social sciences, engineering, and computer/IT science. Department of Global Innovation Studies and the Department of Regional Development Studies are English-medium programs, in which students can complete all coursework in English.

Toyo has 15 graduate schools with 36 majors and 8 majors are offered all in English.

Toyo is one of the 37 universities in Japan that are selected by Japan¡¯s Ministry of Education and engaged in the Top Global University Project, with responsibilities to develop global competitiveness and contribute to the globalization of higher education in Japan in general.

Campus Features

    Admissions

    Toyo University offers online admissions for international students. You can apply, attend an online interview, and check the admissions results online. There are two application periods:

    • April start: Application in late September of the previous year
    • September start: Application in mid-February

    Visa Requirements

    All international degree-seeking students are required to possess a permit of medium- or long-term stay under student visa.

    Campus Life & Facilities

    Toyo University has 2 international dormitories, where domestic and international students live, eat, learn, and interact with each other. We encourage international students to stay there as they can ejoy tremendous benefits ranging from various supports from the International Affairs Office, dormitory managers and Resident Assistants. We also offer different programs that help international students learn Japanese culture and society and spend a safe and comfortable student life at Toyo.
