The mission of the Bachelor of Science Degree in Canine Studies (Cynology) is to guide the students¡¯ exploration of the canine species through a vast array of scholarly studies and experiences that expose the uniqueness of the dog¡¯s coveted relationship with humans while providing an opportunity for students to explore their own species as it evolved through its relationship with the canine, and in so doing, provide a multitude of dog or human aligned job opportunities.

This is a top-up degree course for students who have completed the HND Applied Animal Science or an equivalent award. This course will give you a comprehensive understanding of the biology of animals and the conservation of wildlife.

The aim of the degree course is to provide education to students who wish to expand their knowledge of animal management systems and who are interested in developing research techniques in aspects of animal welfare and behaviour, animal collections management and wildlife management...

Coming from a Foundation degree or HND background, you will be able to tailor your studies to develop skills including equine behaviour and welfare, and aspects of vetinary science applicable to the species. This course is a springboard to further research or employment in the equine industry with careers in equine media, equine higher education or any number of avenues successfully pursued by our graduates.

The course includes specialist modules and practical experience with a range of domestic and companion species, enabling students to understand the behavior and welfare of many different animals, both in captivity and in the wild.

There are many colleges and universities where students can learn about animal behaviour, but very few like Franklin & Marshall College provide opportunities in the Animal Behavior major of the Biological Foundations of Behavior program for undergraduates to work directly in the laboratory, field, zoos and other countries with many animal species, including aquatic invertebrates, fish, mammals, birds and capuchin monkeys.

The Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Sciences provides students the most current and up-to-date information on production methods involved in the care and management of companion animals, livestock, and poultry. Students are prepared to go on to advanced studies in animal sciences, veterinary medicine, pharmacy school, human medicine, nursing school, dental school, and education.
